We Have Lost Our Protectors

Brothers, we need our protectors.

Brothers, we need you.

You are the keepers of the sacred fire, the ones who watch over the women and children so we are safe, so this world is safe.

Where is our safety now?

Have you forgotten us, your women, your children? Have you forgotten one another?

Where are you while the women are harmed? Where are you while the children are afraid? Where are you while your brothers lose themselves to anger, hate, addiction, violence and despair?

Have you exchanged your integrity, leadership and compassion for the mindset of those who seek to extract from you, too? Those who feed upon your wounds, your loneliness, your longing for something missing, telling you that something missing is domination and false power over your kin.

It is the blind leading the blind. Don’t you see?

Where are you when the women you were born to love are carrying everything alone?

Where are you?

We know you, too, have been harmed by this modern world.

Your rites of passage were taken from you. Your elders lost to wars they didn’t start, to a modern slavery that extracted their souls one 9–5 day at a time—their precious time, presence and purpose traded for an arbitrary paper bill, while their sons (you) waited at home for the guidance, direction and initiation only a wise elder could provide.

In that absence of guidance, your grief was called weakness, your tenderness was shamed, and your worth became measured by what you could earn, own, conquer and provide.

They took your true purpose and replaced it with productivity: feed the system, earn more, own more, become more. The same system that took from your fathers now takes from you, consuming you and spitting you out as a carbon copy of everything your soul did not come here to be.

Is this what you long for, Brothers?

Or does your soul search for deeper meaning?

If so, you are looking in the wrong places.

Your sacred life-force energy leaks onto a square screen. You soothe your exhaustion with poison and soul-eating spirits when you could gather with your Brothers, protect your communities and tend to each other’s hearts.

You turn your eyes from abuse and violence. You watch the exploitation and objectification of women as though it were entertainment. The unhealed, wounded masculine trades women as though they are commodities on the market, always searching for another, forgetting She is the very portal through which you travelled here.

Do you remember the womb from which you were birthed? How your mother carried you into this world, nourished you with her own body and brought you through the canal between worlds?

And your Earth Mother, who held you as you grew into a man. She feeds you. She waters you. She breathes you.

And yet you cut down the trees that bear you fruit, only to build over them with your machines, suffocating the land beneath concrete in pursuit of what?

You cannot eat money.

The same mentality that taught you to look upon Woman and ask, What can I take from her? taught you to look upon the Earth and ask the same.

Does this not anger you, Brothers?

The Mother calls for you.

The women call to you.

Please, can you hear us?

We ask you to remember; to wake from this amnesia. To take your power back as strong, honourable, devoted men and refuse to let this world extract from you, too.

It is your choice.

Do you drink from the cup of your soul, or do you drink from the cup of your ego?

We are here, longing for your return. We call out to our warriors to stop fighting a battle with themselves and remember what they are here to protect: Life, humanity, this Earth and the children who will inherit what we leave behind.

Close your eyes, Brothers. Feel the wind caress your skin, the sunlight on your face, your feet upon this magnificent planet.

Remember the Mother beneath them.

Will you give to Her?

Will you protect Her?

Will you stand with us?

Will you protect us?

Where are you, our warriors of the Light?

We need you…
